Every two years, the Center for the Study of Religion, Culture, and Society (CSRCS) invites applications from ÂÒÂ×ÊÓÆµ teaching faculty for role of CSRCS Scholar to enhance the intellectual and practical capacity of the Center.

During a two-year appointment, the CSRCS Scholar undertakes activities and initiatives that promote their own professional development and support the work and mission of the CSRCS while assuming leadership in some of the CSRCS’s ongoing initiatives. The CSRCS Scholar undertakes Center work that extends its productivity, accessibility, and impact and to motivate, organize, and sustain scholarly collaborations across campus. Applicants propose professional and scholarly activity conducted under the auspices and with the support of the CSRCS that will achieve shared objectives to promote interdisciplinary research and intercultural learning related to religion, culture, secularity, worldview, lifeways, and/or associated themes. Such activity might include but is not limited to:

  • The infusion of multifaith methods, models, or opportunities across disciplines, professional schools, graduate programs, or STEM
  • The creation of multimedia content that advances the public understanding of religion
  • The organization of conferences, seminars, workshops, consultations, or symposia of interest to the applicant
  • The advancement of public education, community engagement, and/or the public understanding of religion
  • Grant writing to support programmatic development or a collaborative scholarly agenda
  • The development of internship opportunities for students in areas that intersect with their interests in studying religion, culture, and society
  • The organization of reading or discussion groups that infuse academic approaches to understanding religion across campus or the community
  • Performance and other artistic expression that explores themes or ideas that intersect with CSRCS interests
  • The creation of a podcast or blog site for exploring underexamined themes in the interdisciplinary study of or teaching about religion
  • The expansion of opportunities for students to pursue faculty-mentored undergraduate research
  • The development of resources on teaching or mentoring about religion for the CSRCS website

The next cycle for applications will close in late November 2025.
