In this class, students use Excel to organize data, compare alternatives, analyze information, and construct decision models. In the Firm Valuation Project, students gather public-company data, develop a five-year discounted cash flow model, estimate the cost of capital and terminal value, perform sensitivity or scenario analysis, and create tables and charts presenting a valuation range. Case studies provide incomplete and ambiguous information, requiring students to consider ethical responsibilities and to identify the data needed for the decision and distinguish relevant inputs from background information. The syllabus identifies Excel proficiency, financial analysis, valuation, and decision-making under uncertainty as central components, assessed through case workbooks, the valuation model, and evidence incorporated into recommendations and presentations. Students must communicate consistent conclusions across written, visual, and verbal formats while tailoring recommendations to corporate decision makers. Achieves technology student learning outcomes c, d, and e.
