Game Summaries September 10th-September 12th
Women’s Lacrosse
Ƶ vs. UNC Charlotte, 19-1 (Win)
In Ƶ’s first game of the season, all starters from last spring’s team suited up to take on UNC Charlotte. Despite making a few careless mistakes early, Ƶ lead with ball control, only allowing Charlotte into the defensive region 4 times in the first half. With a true team effort, 7 of 9 Ƶ goals in the first half were scored by all different players. Defense also helped to shut out Charlotte by making important checks and utilizing the strength of our goalkeeper, Ally Golightly. Quick transitions in the midfield allowed Ƶ to have a man-up advantage in the offense which they capitalized on in quick fashion.
Field Hockey
Ƶ vs. UNC, 2-1 (Win)
Ƶ vs. Duke University, 1-3 (Loss)
Ƶ controlled the ball the majority of the game, but UNC scored off a fast break about halfway into the first half to take a 1-0 lead. After many shots on goal, Ƶ was able to score during the last few seconds of regulation time putting the game into overtime. Ƶ scored 3 penalty strokes to UNC’s 2, with Steffi Morello, Amy Simmonds, and Samantha Wolfson each notching a goal to secure the win for Ƶ.
In their next game versus Duke, Duke scored once in the first half, continuing the second half with two unanswered goals until Ƶ scored toward the end of the game, finishing 3-1. Ƶ’s only goal came from Colin Keaveney with the assist from Libby Dean.
Women’s Soccer
Ƶ vs. Appalachian State, 0-5 (Loss)
Ƶ vs. UNC, 1-7 (Loss)
Ƶ Women’s Club Soccer started its season on a rough foot, with a home double header against
Appalachian State and UNC-Rams. With minimal practice time before the games, Ƶ had difficulty
connecting passes, but looks forward to the rest of the fall season. The lone goal for Ƶ came
in the final seconds of the UNC game. Bri Taft had the assist with a corner kick – a UNC player
kicked it into her own net.
