Omri Shimron to perform at national conference of composers

Omri Shimron, assistant professor of music, will be performing a new work dedicated to him by American composer Christopher Dietz at the Society of Composers, Inc. National Conference on Sunday, Nov. 14. The conference will be hosted by the University of South Carolina School of Music in Columbia, S.C.

David Cooper appointed to governor’s education commission

North Carolina Gov. Bev Perdue has appointed School of Education Dean David Cooper to the Governor’s Education Transformation Commission, a new board of influential leaders who will advise the governor on the use of federal “Race to the Top” funds for implementing the “Career and College: Ready, Set, Go! Initiative” across North Carolina.

Computing Sciences Teams Excel at Mid-Atlantic Regional Programming Contest

On Saturday, Nov. 6, 2010, ÂÒÂ×ÊÓÆµ had four three-person programming teams excel at the IBM sponsored Mid-Atlantic ACM Regional Programming Contest. All four teams finished in the top 50% with two of the teams finishing in the top 25% of the 157 teams, representing over 40 universities.

ÂÒÂ×ÊÓÆµ computing sciences student writes code for new iPhone app

ÂÒÂ×ÊÓÆµ senior Tyler Anderson wrote major portions of the code for a new iPhone/iPod Touch application released by the Iconfactory, a graphic design and software firm based in Greensboro, N.C. The application was approved by Apple for distribution on its iTunes App Store on Oct. 13, following a rigorous quality review for compliance on Apple's mobile devices.
