Jessie Moore, director of ÂÒÂ×ÊÓÆµ’s Center for Engaged Learning, publishes new book on writing transfer 

Jessie Moore, Director of ÂÒÂ×ÊÓÆµ’s Center for Engaged Learning, published a new book Understanding Writing Transfer that features work from ÂÒÂ×ÊÓÆµ’s Critical Transitions: Writing and the Question of Transfer research seminar.

Jessie Moore, director of ÂÒÂ×ÊÓÆµ’s and associate professor of English, has co-edited a new book with Randall Bass, released this January by

 features work from the Center for Engaged Learning’s 2011-13 research seminar on . In addition to co-editing the volume, Moore wrote the opening chapter,Five Essential Principles About Writing Transfer.

The book examines the question, “What do we really know about the transfer of writing knowledge?” and is the culmination of research conducted during the seminar’s two-year multi-institutional studies by forty-five researchers from twenty-eight institutions in five countries. According to Stylus Publishing, the research “identifies enabling practices for, and five essential principles about, writing transfer that should inform decision-making by all higher education stakeholders about how to generally promote the transfer of knowledge.”

The collection also features a chapter by the Center’s executive director, Peter Felten, on writing high-impact practices, and a chapter by Brooke Barnett, Woody Pelton, Francois Masuka, Kevin Morrison and Moore on diversity, global citizenship and writing transfer.

This newest publication is another example of the ’s efforts to bring together international leaders in higher education to develop and to synthesize rigorous research on central questions about student learning. The Center fosters investigations of engaged learning and high-impact educational practices; hosts multi-institutional research and practice-based initiatives, conferences, and seminars; and shares related resources for faculty and faculty developers on high-impact practices for engaged learning.
