Eddie Bridges ’57, Claude Manzi ’50 to join Guilford County Sports Hall of Fame

ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ alumni Eddie Bridges '57 and the late Claude Manzi '50 will be among 14 individuals inducted into the Guilford County (N.C.) Sports Hall of Fame in the Class of 2011, a group that will bring the total number of inductees since the Hall's creation to 78.

Multi-faith Center to use wood from fallen trees

Two trees that towered over ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ for decades were felled Wednesday morning, and the dried wood from both will be featured in the future Numen-Lumen Pavilion, which will house a multi-faith center planned for the very site in the Academic Village where the giant oaks once stood.

Family and friends of former ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ First Lady Verona Daniels Danieley ’49 celebrated her life Monday afternoon as hundreds of mourners filled ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ Community Church for a memorial service that honored a woman who “set the gold standard as a builder of community.”

Verona Daniels Danieley, 87, a fixture of the ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ community for decades as wife of president emeritus Dr. James Earl Danieley, died June 24 at Moses Cone Hospital in Greensboro, N.C., following a brief illness.

ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ’s Center for the Advancement of Teaching and Learning has started a two-year research seminar, “Critical Transitions: Writing and the Question of Transfer,” that will explore the composition skills students learn in the classroom and use in new settings, such as an upper level course, an internship or the workplace.
