Sport and Event Management faculty Tony Weaver, Hal Walker and Anne Marx presented research findings at the 25th Annual Conference of the North American Society for Sport Management in Tampa, Fla., held from June 1-5, 2010.

For Raymond Beck ’75, the online auction site eBay is occasionally a treasure trove of ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ artifacts, and one of the latest finds for the retired North Carolina State Capitol historian and site manager was a gold medal from the “Clio” literary society engraved with the name of the man who received it as a graduate of ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ College's Class of 1893.

Kevin O'Mara, a professor of management, and Gary Palin, director of the Doherty Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership, presented their paper "A Cross-National Empirical Study Investigating the Role of Purchasing Purpose has on the Country-of-Origin Effect" on May 30 at the ABWIC Conference in Nashville, Tenn.

June ushered in the start of several construction projects on campus, including renovations and construction in Alumni Gym, Latham Park, Greek housing and the Colonnades. Work also continues on Alumni Field House to the north of Rhodes Stadium.

Officers from several local police agencies, as well as employees from Norfolk Southern, held an awareness checkpoint Tuesday morning at the railroad crossing on Williamson Avenue where they distributed pamphlets that shared safety tips for driving over tracks.

Construction crews are now at work realigning crosswalks at the intersection of Williamson Avenue and College Avenue to make the area safer for pedestrians. The project is scheduled for completion in mid July.

Periclean Scholars from ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ have traveled around the world to work on their projects — from Zambia to Ghana, Mexico, Namibia and Honduras. For the latest trip, students visited rural villages in India.

It takes more than cardboard and trash bags to make a boat that can cross Lake Mary Nell. Mathematics, physics and engineering play a role in the process, too, as scholars in the ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ Academy discovered Thursday afternoon when they set sail across the pond as part of the “Challenges in Engineering” course offered this summer in the academic enrichment program for Alamance County teenagers.

ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ has finalized a blueprint for shrinking its carbon footprint and promoting conservation in the coming decades by addressing energy use, transportation, solid waste and other sources of emissions on campus. The Climate Action Plan includes recommendations for incorporating sustainability and climate change into education, research and community outreach.

ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ has released its President's List and Dean's List academic recognitions for the 2010 spring semester.
