Hometown Heroes honored in annual ceremony

Four people who make a difference in the lives of others were honored Monday by ÂÒÂ×ÊÓÆµ in the 16th annual “Hometown Heroes” awards ceremony on campus. Freshmen class officers selected the honorees for “making a positive difference by touching lives and strengthening their home communities” in a program sponsored by the Truitt Center for Religious and Spiritual Life.
Clyde Ellis, Yoram Lubling awarded Senior Faculty Research Fellowships

ÂÒÂ×ÊÓÆµ professors Clyde Ellis and Yoram Lubling have been selected as Senior Faculty Research Fellows for the 2010-2011 and 2011-2012 academic years. A recommendation from the Presidential Task Force on Scholarship, the competitive program was estabalished to support senior faculty in their ongoing scholarly work.
Kiplinger’s names ÂÒÂ×ÊÓÆµ a 2009-10 “Best Value”

Kiplinger’s Personal Finance magazine has ranked ÂÒÂ×ÊÓÆµ among the nation’s top 50 best values in private higher education and the #2 university in total costs, a distinction published in the magazine’s December edition. The 2009-10 ranking is the fourth consecutive top-50 placement of ÂÒÂ×ÊÓÆµ by Kiplinger’s.
LSM students raise funds at Champions Tour Event

The LSM Society managed and staffed the concession operation at the SAS – Champions Tour PGA Golf Tournament in Cary, N.C., at Prestonwood Country Club from Sept. 23-27, 2009, marking the fifth consecutive year that students from the LSM program have worked this event.

Tom Mould part of team to receive $75,000 grant from Teagle Foundation

ÂÒÂ×ÊÓÆµ associate professor Tom Mould is one of nine folklorists from colleges and institutes across the nation to be part of a team that received a $75,000 grant to bring together scholars to discuss a “big question” of central importance to the humanities or social sciences.

ÂÒÂ×ÊÓÆµ has received a grant of nearly $116,000 from the National Endowment for the Humanities to organize two history seminars next summer for community college professors from across the nation. Assistant professor John Beck authored the grant proposal and will co-direct the project with Jim Bissett, the William J. Story, Sr. Professor at ÂÒÂ×ÊÓÆµ.
Climate Action Plan forums to be held Oct. 27 & 28
