Faculty books win national award

The American Library Association has named two books by ÂÒÂ×ÊÓÆµ faculty - a textbook on the Holocaust by professor David M. Crowe, and "Southern Culture: An Introduction" co-authored by assistant professor John Beck - as CHOICE Outstanding Academic Titles for 2008. The annual list reflects the best titles reviewed by the organization's CHOICE magazine and is the top recognition of the academic library community.

POWERless Energy Competition under way

The POWERless Energy Competition returned to ÂÒÂ×ÊÓÆµ this semester for a seven-week contest to see which residence halls can best reduce their electricity usage. The competition began Feb. 17 with a kick-off event at College Coffee.

RecycleMania 2009 results for Week 1

Results are in for ÂÒÂ×ÊÓÆµ during the first official week of RecyleMania 2009, a 10-week competition taking part on campuses across the nation to reduce waste and raise awareness about recycling. Overall cumulative pounds recycled (per capita) on campus is ahead of the data reported by the university last year at this stage of the contest.

Two ÂÒÂ×ÊÓÆµ juniors have been named finalists for a 2008 Truman Scholarship, a prestigious national fellowship for graduate study awarded annually “to persons who demonstrate outstanding potential for and who plan to pursue a career in public service.”

Students receive Study Abroad scholarships and grants

Three ÂÒÂ×ÊÓÆµ students have been awarded federally funded scholarships to help support their spring 2009 semester study abroad experiences, while a fourth student is the recipient of a scholarship to fund her semester in Denmark.

Enduring Freedom veteran honored by LSM

The Department of Leisure and Sport Management welcomed home one of its own Friday as faculty, students and guests gathered in Holland House for Johnathan Harvey ’09, who returned to North Carolina last month from a four-month deployment to Afghanistan as part of Operation Enduring Freedom.
