the University of Maryland, will be the first woman ever to head the

A university senior who wants to combat childhood obesity, and a junior
with plans to help disabled people learn to garden, are the recipients
of the first ever Student Initiative Grants awarded by the Kernodle

ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ team in Zambia details trip on blog

A team from ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ flew to Zambia in May to gather
interviews for a documentary under development by the Periclean
Scholars Class of 2009. The group, which is also developing a Winter
Term program that involves Habitat for Humanity, shared its work on a blog and has produced a short video explaining its mission.

published June 1, 2008, in the (Greensboro, N.C.) News &
Record. The column, "Rate Greensboro's Future," dealt with rating the
preferred future vision of Greensboro and the region on three scales.
Pericles sabbatical assists N.C. Forest Service

Brian Chandler volunteers his time with a local fire department. But
for the month of April, the ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ HVAC mechanic learned how
to control brush fires that promote healthy forests, and to monitor
logging companies that work near water supplies.
ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ Academy hosts young students from D.C.

Thirty students from an elementary school in Washington, D.C., spent
two days on campus this month as part of a joint program between the
ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ Academy and a nonprofit group dedicated to helping under-served
youth prepare for and succeed in college.
Senior class makes gift to ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ

Members of the Class of 2008, along with their parents, grandparents
and friends, have contributed more than $18,000 to the Senior Class Gift
Campaign for Student Initiative Grants – money that will support
students who want to organize future service opportunities.
