Through the Communications Fellows, Odyssey Program and the First Phoenix Society, Gabriela Alvarez '28 has embraced her identity as a first-generation student while pursuing opportunities that support both her academic goals and personal growth.

A professor’s encouragement helped Christian Seitz ’16 discover a passion for chemistry that ultimately led him to global vaccine research. Now working through the University of Chicago, Seitz studies viruses identified by the World Health Organization as potential pandemic threats in an effort to help prevent future global outbreaks.

Motivated by her cousin Grace, who has Down syndrome, Izzie Crowley found her purpose in helping children reach their potential, no matter their challenges. Supported by a personal donor relationship that reminds her why she chose this path, Crowley aims to make a difference in the education system.

Through her Kerrii Brown Anderson Odyssey Scholarship, Madeline Mitchener '26 is making valuable changes on ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ’s campus and throughout Burlington through her passion for advocacy and policy making.

What began as an uncertain start on a pre-med track turned into a journey of creative discovery for Delaney Guidi ’26, who found her purpose and her people through ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ’s School of Communications, with the help of her scholarship.

As a Califf Endowed Scholarship recipient, Malia Cortes ’28 uses her opportunity to pursue biology and the pre-med track to the fullest. With over 400 volunteer hours and an internship at Alamance Eye Center, she hopes to one day work and support Alamance’s Dermatology Practices.

At ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ’s Charlotte campus, Skylar Cook '28 is turning classroom lessons into real-world impact. Between her internship with the ACC and her research partnership with the Sports Business Journal, she’s building the skills and connections to launch a career in women’s sports.

Inspired by the 2008 financial crisis, Noah Biggers ’26 is pursuing a dual degree in accounting through the Odyssey Program to ensure ethical accountability in the corporate world.
