ÂÒÂ×ÊÓÆµ Law hosts conference on academic support and effective counseling at law schools

ÂÒÂ×ÊÓÆµ School of Law hosted Bridging Troubled Waters: Counseling Fundamentals for Academic Support Professionals, June 21-22, sponsored by the Law School ÂÒÂ×ÊÓÆµ Council. It was the first counseling skills training course to be offered in the 17 years of annual meetings following the inaugural conference that marked the establishment of the academic support field within legal education nationally.

ÂÒÂ×ÊÓÆµ’s Director of Design, Carolyn Nelson, has won numerous awards for graphic design work that has helped to communicate ÂÒÂ×ÊÓÆµ’s character, values and vision for higher education to a wide-array of university constituencies for more than 20 years. But she’s also an accomplished artist whose hand stitched textile collages have been shown in more than 25 exhibits across North Carolina, including most recently at Greensboro’s Gallery 115 in December of 2009 and at the Center for Creative Leadership, through an exhibit that opened August 27.
Alexis Martinez named assistant dean for student affairs at ÂÒÂ×ÊÓÆµ Law, Lisa Watson joins as reference and government documents librarian

Alexis Martinez has been named assistant dean for student affairs at ÂÒÂ×ÊÓÆµ School of Law. She earned degrees in higher education administration and law from the University of Miami. Meanwhile, Lisa Watson joins the ÂÒÂ×ÊÓÆµ Law library with degrees in law and library science from the University of Kentucky School of Law and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

More than 30 second- and third-year law students volunteered to be student-mentors to incoming law students in August. The student-mentors are part of the L.E.A.F.S. program, which stands for Leadership at ÂÒÂ×ÊÓÆµ by Advising First-Year Students.
