The ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ Phoenix secured a share of its fourth Southern Conference regular-season title, and third in four years, by rallying for four runs in the bottom of the eight for an 8-7 win over the visiting Furman Paladins on May 19. The win was the 11th for ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ in its final at bat this season.

Meghan Kingsley '07 appeared on the May 7 episode of "ESPN Sports Saturday" in a segment about Francisco "Paco" Rodriguez, a professional boxer who died after an October 2009 title bout. Rodriguez's family decided to donate his organs, and Kingsley was one of four women whose lives were saved by the transplants. Kingsley and the organ recipients met the Rodriguez family for the first time as part of the show.

A new website has been created to allow the ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ community to continue discussion of issues raised at this spring's Convocation for Honors. The website includes video excerpts, transcripts of panelist comments and the opportunity for you to add your comments and ideas on each of the convocation topics.

Two ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ professors in the Department of History and Geography shared from campus on Friday their insights about the Civil War with students in a U.S. history class taught by a former North Carolina Teaching Fellow at a high school 90 miles away.

For the second consecutive year, ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ students who took part in the annual springtime ELONTHON dance marathon raised more than $100,000 to benefit young patients and their families with the nonprofit Children’s Miracle Network and Duke Children’s Hospital.

Tyronna Hooker G'09, an exceptional children’s teacher at Graham Middle School in Graham, N.C., and a 2009 graduate of ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ's Master of Education program, has been named the 2011-12 North Carolina Teacher of the Year.
