Spring 09: ÂÒÂ×ÊÓÆµ awards honorary doctorate to alumnus Noel Allen

Noel Lee Allen, a 1969 ÂÒÂ×ÊÓÆµ alumnus whose distinguished legal career has won international accolades, received an honorary doctor of humane letters during ÂÒÂ×ÊÓÆµ’s Convocation for Honors on March 31. The degree was conferred by President Leo M. Lambert and presented by John G. Sullivan, professor emeritus of philosophy.

President Leo M. Lambert, Love School of Business Dean Mary Gowan, five business students and other friends of the university sounded the opening bell of the New York Stock Exchange on March 9 on a day when Wall Street celebrated ÂÒÂ×ÊÓÆµ's academic achievements.

A collection of postcards maintained by Belk Library offers a window into ÂÒÂ×ÊÓÆµ history, from faded photos of the Old Main administration building that burned in 1923 to a newly opened Alumni Gym a quarter century later. Some of those postcards are now available for the public to view just by hopping online.
