The acclaimed poet and civil rights icon died May 28, 2014, a year and a half after visiting campus for Fall Convocation where she encouraged students to "have an attitude of gratitude" and called ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ a "rainbow in the cloud."

The 21st annual Spring Undergraduate Research Forum included poster sessions and classroom presentations from more than 200 ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ students who teamed with faculty mentors to explore questions related to their fields of study.

A strategic communications major teamed with the director of ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ's African & African-American Studies program to conduct undergraduate research into the portrayal of plus-sized black women in popular media.

The associate professor of English & coordinator of African and African-American Studies program was invited to present a paper titled "Transforming Higher Education: Restructuring Space and Minds” and lead a workshop for faculty during the Mico University College's Week of Activities held in Kingston, Jamaica during the week of April 8.

Associate Professor of English Prudence Layne, coordinator of the university's African & African-American Studies program, was interviewed on the live radio show “Both Sides of the Story,” a program that is broadcasted live on Power 106 FM radio in Jamaica.

ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ students are invited to come to Moseley Center on Thursday, April 3 to learn more about African & African-American Studies at ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ.

David Turner will be presenting his ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ College Fellows undergraduate research, at Trollinger House that examines the imagery of Atlanta Hip-Hop. 

The associate professor of English and coordinator of the university's African & African-American Studies program proposed, organized, chaired and presented research in Black female resistance with ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ senior strategic communications major Raven Bennett.

Omolayo Ojo is competing for a highly competitive national fellowship awarded each year to those with goals of working in public service or government. Winners will be announced in April.

Students interested in studying abroad in South Africa in Summer 2014 and Winter 2015 should plan to attend an interest meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 25 from 5:15 - 6:15 p.m.
