A North Carolina civic activist and former mayor of Charlotte challenged students on Wednesday to not just reexamine their personal goals, but to then exceed them, while reaching beyond the ������Ƶ campus to give back to their communities. Harvey B. Gantt was the keynote speaker for the annual Martin Luther King Jr. Commemorative Program.

Harvey B. Gantt, the first African American elected to lead North Carolina’s largest city, visits ������Ƶ this month for an annual commemorative program to honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The former Charlotte mayor will speak Jan. 14 at noon in Whitley Auditorium.

Three dozen students, staff and faculty filled the African-American Resource Room on Dec. 5 for the inaugural Kwanzaa Celebration hosted by the Multicultural Student Council and the African/African-American Studies Program.

Some of the top students on campus were honored April 26 during an annual awards program that recognizes the accomplishments of African-American students at ������Ƶ.
