Three of North Carolina’s most influential voices in higher education gathered Wednesday, Feb. 9, for a panel discussion at a civic engagement conference on ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ’s campus. Their message was simple: state and federal lawmakers should preserve financial aid for students in the ongoing recession, and to stay competitive in a global economy, schools must widen access for those who want to pursue college degrees.

ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ students, faculty and staff helped clear debris, trees and other material during an April 30 tornado clean-up service trip to Shaw University in Raleigh, N.C.

Students and staff from ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ gathered May 1 in Graham, N.C., for the dedication of the 20th Habitat for Humanity home built by ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ volunteers since the international nonprofit program first established a chapter at the university in 1989.

Hank Brodt, a survivor of the Plaszow concentration camp, will share his story of the Holocaust on Monday, May 2, at 7 p.m. in LaRose Digital Theatre.

They are common stereotypes of Africa often portrayed in media: poverty, AIDS, a “primitiveness” of people who live there. As ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ senior Maggie Pahos prepared for a semester abroad in Ghana, she wanted to find ways to dispel those stereotypes through her own research, photography and creative writing, and her project is the latest to be featured in a series of E-net profiles on Lumen Scholars in the Class of 2011.

Paul J. Geis, assistant director for affiliations and exchanges in the Isabella Cannon International Centre, participated in the inaugural Fulbright Nehru International Education Administrators Seminar in India this spring for international education administrators from the United States.
