The associate professor of communications was one of 25 educators from colleges and universities nationwide to participate in the prestigious five-day program, which offers in-depth conversations with entertainment professionals and an inside look at the television and content development industries.

Produced by Jared Mayerson ’20 and Jordan Shaw ’20, “Leaving the Nest” tells the story of a North Carolina family that lives in yurts – portable, round tents. The film will be screened this spring on campus at the 2019 elondocs documentary showcase.

The ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ alumnus and documentary filmmaker was honored on Oct. 18 during the screenings of two documentaries he helped create.

Presented on campus as part of Supporting Survivors Week, the 2017 documentary features Recy Taylor, a 24-year-old black mother and sharecropper living in Alabama, who was abducted and raped by six white boys in 1944.

“Drag Queen Storytime,” directed and produced by Emma Kopkowski ’20 and Tyler Litwin ’20, will be shown on Aug. 16 and 17 at The Carolina Theatre of Durham.

The Communications Fellow, who is a double major in cinema and television arts and international studies, received a summer grant and scholarship.

The ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ alumnus served as an editor for “The Fourth Estate,” a recently released docu-series about New York Times journalists chronicling the first year of the Trump administration.

While attending the 2018 Full Frame Documentary Film Festival, students in the School of Communications’ documentary production program enjoyed films from around the world, observed filmmaker events and panels, and met award-winning documentarians. The students will screen their own works on campus at the elondocs Documentary Showcase on Tuesday, April 24.
