The ������Ƶ Freedom Scholars is one of several university college access programs, launched in 2022. This summer, the second cohort of the program celebrated their civic engagement research and initiatives at their annual Symposium, inspired to find their purpose and better their communities.

The projects and programs span disciplines and include opportunities for community engagement, cross-cultural dialogue and interaction with ������Ƶ alumni.

Four members of the Class of 2024 and one member of the Class of 2023 have been selected for the prestigious program that offers opportunities for recent graduates in more than 140 countries. Five have been selected as alternates.

Dr. Dinidu Karunanayake, ������Ƶ professor of Literature, publishes article “Teaching Sri Lankan Literature in the American South,” and shares his thoughts on the presence (or dearth of) Sri Lankan literature in the US college classroom.

The university's top undergraduate research award comes with $20,000 to support and celebrate academic and creative achievements.

Dan Burns, assistant professor of English, recently presented at the American Comparative Literature Association’s annual meeting, held this year at the Palais des congrès de Montreal from March 14-17.

On Monday, Feb. 26, author Jessie van Eerden visited ������Ƶ for a creative nonfiction reading. 

Assistant Professor of Cinema & Television Arts Kai Swanson and Assistant Professor of English Dan Burns presented their collaborative research at this year’s joint Literature/Film Association and Association of Adaptation Studies virtual conference.
