The 15th annual Philip L. Carret Endowment Thomas Jefferson Essay Contest asked students to write about the relationship between public education and the common good in the 21st century.

The ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ associate professor of art and environmental studies collaborated with poet and landscape theorist Jolie B. Kaytes for the project, Gathering Dust: Sediment/Sentiment, which will be on view at Virginia's well-known Torpedo Factory Art Center in Alexandria through Dec. 1.

Seven faculty members will take part in a program that will allow them to incorporate or enhance a focus on sustainable principles and practices in their courses.

A fellowship created by ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ in 2008 will help support excellence in ongoing research and creative work by Janet MacFall, Drew Perry and Anthony Weston.
