North Carolina's public television station visited ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ in July to report on the success of an educational program that inspires and assists young children from the local community with learning to read.

A July 24 closing ceremony marked the completion of the two-week camp that allowed 75 students to spend time on ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ’s campus participating in academic classes and other engaging activities.

ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ Collegiate Chapter of the National Association for Music Education and students from the "It Takes a Village" project will perform together May 3.

ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ services and programs in downtown Burlington, N.C., have boosted the local economy over the past three years by an estimated $8.1 million, earning an award this month from the North Carolina Department of Commerce.

Jean Rattigan-Rohr, associate professor and director of the Center of Access and Success, Ye He, an associate professor from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, and Michele Meredith, from the East Queen Street Baptist Evening Institute, presented research at the Mixed Methods Research Caribbean Conference at the University of the West Indies in Kingston, Jamaica March 13.

The second annual event hosted by the university's "It Takes a Village" Project featured talks, a poster presentation, and musical selections by children involved in a program aimed at helping youth overcome reading difficulties.

With more than 140 local children now involved in an ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ program that helps struggling readers, administrators sought a larger community space to bring families together with their college student tutors.

Furman Moseley '56 met Friday with students in the Center for Access & Success to share his own memories of ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ and to learn about their collegiate experiences made possible through scholarships he created.

A Wednesday ribbon cutting and open house in Mooney building gave faculty, staff, family and friends an opportunity to tour the new home of four ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ programs that collectively serve underrepresented students from pre-kindergarten through college.
