Alexandria Hall and Jennifer LaBeau won the final round of ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ Law’s Eighth Annual Intramural Moot Court Competition. Gonzalo Ventura and Meghan Smith also competed in the final round. Ventura was named “Best Oralist from the Final Round” and “Best Oralist from the Preliminary Rounds.” The team of Leah Britt and James Capps took “Best Brief” honors. 

ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ Law alumnus Mital Patel L’09 was recognized by North Carolina Lawyers Weekly as a 2015 “Leader in the Law” at a Sept. 25 luncheon in Charlotte, NC before an audience of leading lawyers from across the state.

In an ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ Law Now commentary, Professor Eric Fink, a labor and employment law expert, examines the impacts on workers of on-demand services like Uber and Taskrabbit. 

ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ Law Professor Henry Gabriel presented a paper Sept. 9 at the Oxford University Faculty of Law on the international financing of agricultural, construction and mining equipment. The paper will be published in the forthcoming issue of the Cape Town Academic Law Review. 

ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ Law student placements in the offices of a city attorney, public defender, judge, law firm and social justice nonprofit are featured in the eighth and final weekly spotlight on ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ Law student summer employment experiences.

ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ School of Law presented Leslie J. Winner, executive director of the Z. Smith Reynolds Foundation, with the Law School’s highest professional honor, the Leadership in the Law Award, recognizing Winner’s significant contributions to law, the legal profession and society. ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ Law Dean Luke Bierman presented the award in Charlotte, N.C. at a luncheon forum attended by lawyer-leaders from across North Carolina.

Enthusiasm for the achievements of ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ Law students and for ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ Law’s leadership role in the innovation of legal education infused the law school’s eighth annual Friends & Family Day on Sept. 19.

Delivering ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ Law's fall 2015 Distinguished Leadership Lecture presented by The Joseph M. Bryan Foundation on Sept. 14, former two-term Michigan Gov. Jennifer Granholm encouraged future leaders to find their passion and commit themselves fully to it.

ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ Law’s Entrepreneurship Speaker Series kicked off on Sept. 10, welcoming entrepreneurs, law students and others to an event entitled “How to Choose the Best Business Structure for Your Company.” Speakers included ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ Law Professor John Flynn, attorney Greg Chabon and law student Gonzalo Ventura.
