Student organizations at ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ Law hosted an Oct. 11 panel discussion on marriage equality prompted by the North Carolina General Assembly's recent decision to allow a same-sex marriage ban amendment to go before voters in the May 2012 elections.

ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ law student A. Brennan Aberle '12 writes in a Sunday, Oct. 23 News and Record op-ed that, "Occupy Wall Street is about evening the odds for people whose voices don’t echo as strongly on Capitol Hill."

Professor of Legal History at ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ Law and Professor of History at ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ David Crowe discussed "International Humanitarian Law and the Path to the Hague" at the Harriman Institute and the East Central European Center at Columbia University on Oct. 24.

On Oct. 8, ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ Law's Leadership Fellows hosted a forum for more than 30 undergraduate Leadership Fellows from ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ to discuss social justice issues. The theme of the forum was,"Think Globally, Act Locally."

Being a healthcare attorney requires a unique dedication to the field, panelists said during the Health Law Panel at ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ Law on Oct. 26. The panel, co-hosted by ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ School of Law's Office of Career Services and ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ's chapter of the Society for Health Law and Bioethics, provided career advice and answered students' questions about healthcare-related legal jobs.

ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ's Humanitarian Immigration Law Clinic assisted in bringing together a family caught up in political unrest in the West African country of Togo.

The first edition of the online Journal of Leadership and the Law was published as a special section of the ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ School of Law website on October 21. The publication includes articles by lawyers and scholars of law, as well as interviews with attorneys in leadership positions, exploring various dimensions of leadership in the legal profession.

The ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ Law student organization Society for Health Law & Bioethics will co-sponsor with the Office of Career Services a panel presentation focusing on careers in Healthcare Law. Panelists will share their career paths, describe their current positions and provide advice on anyone seeking a career in this practice area. At a later date another panel will address Healthcare Reform, but we have asked each panelist to devote a brief portion of their presentation to how Healthcare Reform has impacted their practice/clients.
