Two teams of ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ students have advanced to the final round of Stanford University’s Global Innovation Tournament, a contest where students around the world were challenged to make an impact on a global issue.

Gary Palin, executive director of the Doherty Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership and senior lecturer of entrepreneurship in the Martha and Spencer Love School of Business, was a featured speaker on Nov. 19 and chaired the plenary panel session launching the RENT XXIII Conference in Budapest, Hungary.

The MBA Program is forming an MBA Student & Alumni Consulting Group that will focus on not-for-profit organizations. The goal of this group is to provide a wide range of business consulting services to not-for-profits from the home communities of MBA students and alumni from the Triad to the Triangle.

The MBA Consulting Group Steering Committee is meeting this evening from 6 pm to 7 pm in KOBC 204. Members of the Consulting Group Steering Committee include Jennifer Sider, Florence Bell, Paul Marshall, Kate Panzer, Heather Scheel, Dave Clark, LaToya Marcus, and Eduardo Figueroa.

Karl Sherrill, VP of Sales for Senn-Dunn and an ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ MBA alum, was a guest speaker in Michael Rodriguez’s Professional Selling class on Friday, Nov. 20.

Love School of Business students Sarah Doggett, Caitlin McGuire and Charles McKenna competed in the Great Northwoods Sales Warmup competition, held Nov. 12-14 at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. It was ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ’s first appearance in this regional sales competition.

Earl Honeycutt, professor of marketing in the Love School of Business and director of the Chandler Family Professional Sales Center, co-authored an article with Vince Magnini of Virginia Tech titled “Use of E-Mail Signature Files in the Hotel Industry.” The article appears in the November issue (50:4) of Cornell Hospitality Quarterly.

Winners of the ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ Innovation Challenge were announced Nov. 18 in an afternoon awards showcase attended by teams from ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ, UNC Greensboro, UNC Charlotte and East Carolina University.

Christina Benson, assistant professor of business law in the Martha and Spencer Love School of Business, had her paper, “Industry Bailouts: Will Protectionist Potholes Put a Dent in Trade and Competitiveness?” published in Competition Forum, a Cabell's peer-reviewed publication of the American Society for Competitiveness. The article appears in Vol. 7, Number 1 (2009).

Demand for oil will continue to climb as nations like China and India grow in the coming decade, and according to a top oil executive on campus Tuesday as part of International Education Week, companies must make additional investments in petroleum production to meet that crucial need.
