Amanda Ketner, a senior mathematics major, won the Outstanding Mathematics Education Student Award for the Central Region at the 40th annual conference of the North Carolina Council of Teachers of Mathematics held Oct. 28-29 in Greensboro, N.C.

Alan Russell, associate professor of mathematics, published "A Model for Undergraduate Research in Statistics Education" in the July 2010 edition of the International Journal for the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning.

Four faculty members were honored May 12, 2010, for superior scholarship, teaching, mentoring and service at ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ’s faculty-staff awards luncheon. Those recognized included Eric Hall, April Post, Todd Lee and Jeffrey C. Pugh.

Amanda Ketner, a junior mathematics major seeking teaching licensure, along with Jan Mays, senior lecturer in mathematics, and Alan Russell, associate professor of mathematics, presented two sessions at the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) annual conference in San Diego, April 20-24.

Senior mathematics major Kelsey Johnson, mentored by James Beuerle, won the Patterson Prize for her research presentation at the MAA Southeastern Sectional Meeting hosted by ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ from March 25-27.

Ayesha Delpish, assistant professor and statistics program coordinator in the Department of Mathematics, was selected to serve a one-month residency at Educational Testing Service as a Visiting Scholar. Her appointment will be served at ETS's main campus in Princeton, N.J., this summer.

Mathematics professors Alan Russell, Kirstie Doehler and Lisa Beuerle presented at a TEAMS (Teachers Empowering All Students in Mathematics and Science) workshop on January 29, 2010. The workshop was funded by an NSF mathematics partnership grant with Vance, Alamance, and Orange Counties.
