Department of Physical Therapy Education faculty members Bill Andrews, Srikant Vallabhajosula and Crystal Ramsey have received notification of acceptance of a research study entitled Reliability and Normative Values of the Wheelchair Propulsion Test: A Preliminary Investigation. Co-authors include Meredith Smith and Meredith Holder Lane, both of whom are ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ DPT graduates of the Class of 2017. 

Johansson authors chapter on the development of professional identity among physical therapy students.

On April 17, 2019 ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ celebrated its 4 annual National Biomechanics Day at ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ.

Neja Uhan, a podiatrist from Oxford, will be working with the Department of Physical Therapy Education for the next nine months, collaborating with biomechanical and clinical foot research for runners.

The grant will support their project titled "Do supervised home exercise programs improve compliance, physical functioning and emotional well-being in persons with Parkinson's disease after physical therapy care?"

The annual community event raised $6,500 for ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ’s pro bono physical therapy clinic and partnered with Special Olympics for the day.  

Shefali Christopher, assistant professor of physical therapy, gave the keynote address at the Running Medicine 2019 conference held March 15-16 at the University in Virginia in Charlottesville.

The annual event offered academic, clinical and career guidance to 200 students from 13 of North Carolina's Doctor of Physical Therapy and Physical Therapy Assistant programs. 

ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ Doctor of Physical Therapy Program students volunteered with the Orthotic & Prosthetic Activities Foundation to help make people with amputation, spinal cord injury and other physical challenges comfortable around water.

The meeting was held Jan. 23-26 in Washington, D.C., with 17,000 people attending.
