ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ’s student news organization won several organizational and individual honors at a national college media conference held in Louisville, Kentucky.

The ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ alumnus oversaw the production of a full-length film titled “Virginia 12th,” which follows the story of Chris Hurst, a one-time news anchor who was thrust into national headlines when his girlfriend and colleague were murdered during a live news broadcast. The 64-minute documentary charts Hurst’s journey as he campaigns for political office.

The freelance photojournalist based in Washington, D.C., presented a lecture in a class offered by The Institute of Politics at the Harvard Kennedy School.

During the two-day trip, 29 students visited with communications professionals and ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ alumni, receiving a behind-the-scenes look at the operations of several prominent organizations, including CNN, Jackson Spalding and the Atlanta Falcons.

Trey Caldwell G’18 collaborated with Gardy Swengbe G’18 and Assistant Professor Doug Kass on separate video projects and both were screened at the metro Atlanta festival in October.

ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ alumnae Alexis de Groot ’17 and Sydney Brown ’18 partnered with faculty members Tony Weaver and Eric Hall to conduct a qualitative study and collect in-depth information on the perception of social support provided to student-athletes rehabilitating injuries.

As part of the 2018 Coca-Cola and Regal Films student film competition, an ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ team received $15,000 to produce a 35-second film highlighting the moviegoing experience.
