The School of Education held its Teacher Education Induction Ceremony on Oct. 13, 2009, in the Koury Business Center's LaRose Digital Theatre, a ceremony that recognized dozens of students as they take the next step in their path to the classroom after ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ.

Stephen Byrd, assistant professor of education, recently had two pieces he co-authored published in the The Child: An Encyclopedic Companion, published by The University of Chicago Press.

Dozens of high school seniors from around the region attended an informational event on campus Monday evening to learn more about the teaching profession from students and faculty in the ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ School of Education.

Kennedy, who earned her elementary education degree from ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ in 2005, is a kindergarten teacher at North Graham Elementary School. On Wednesday, she was named the Alamance-Burlington School System 2009-2010 Teacher of the Year.

High school teachers from Alamance and Orange counties and ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ professors meet to design research projects that will measure how students absorb classroom lessons.

Commencement ceremonies were held on Aug. 22, 2009 for 45 M.Ed. students who completed their studies in the School of Education. Commencement speaker was David H. Cooper, Dean of the School of Education.

Jean Rohr, an assistant professor in the School of Education, served as the keynote speaker on Aug. 15 at "Lifting Children to Life," an education summit sponsored by the Word of Life Church in Greensboro, N.C.

Carolina Biological Supply, a Burlington, N.C., company that provides materials to the ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ Academy, has produced a video highlighting the science work of faculty member Mat Gendle, assistant professor of psychology.

In one room on Tuesday, first and second graders place animals on a magnetic storyboard. Down the hall, older students listen to a tale of wombats. Children enrolled in a School of Education program are attending classes on campus this month for an enrichment academy that serves as an internship setting for current and future special needs teachers in ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ’s graduate education program.
