The Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA) grant will fund a collaborative libraries project among the North Carolina Independent Colleges & Universities (NCICU) institutions.

 

The funding will assist A.L. Hook Associate Professor Chad Awtrey and Williams High School math teachers Robin French '15 and Dee Sizemore in providing enrichment activities for talented high school students.

The recent Cognitive Aging Summit assembled nearly 300 researchers supported by National Institutes of Health grants who like Amy Overman, associate professor of psychology, are focused on age-related brain and cognitive changes. 

The research focuses on the use of magnetic forces to move polymer composites embedded with magnetic particles and could have practical application in medical diagnostic devices.  

A manuscript coauthored by Emily Evans, associate professor of physics, was featured as a Top Story on the NSF's Science360 News. 

This funding supports efforts on the development of next generation X-ray diffraction imaging systems relying on X-ray scattering rather than X-ray attenuation for baggage item identification.

The grant from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants will help support a health fair for local elementary students.

The grant will fund a project focusing on the challenges of women of color in science and math educational settings. 

India Johnson, assistant professor of psychology, received the grant for her project, “I Got Stigma on My Mind: The Impact of Stigma Consciousness, Role Models and Educational Setting on Women of Color in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math.”
