Paul Newby, senior associate justice on the N.C. Supreme Court, spoke Monday to members of ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ Law's Federalist Society about how the U.S. Constitution protects fundamental rights and freedoms. 

Attorney Toussaint Romain established a national reputation for his community activism following a police shooting in North Carolina, and in remarks delivered as part of ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ Law’s 2019 Inclusion Week, he implored students to use their legal education to confront the institutional racism embedded in society.

In a visit sponsored by the Office of Academic Success, Dr. William Kraus of the Duke Molecular Physiology Institute offered suggestions to nearly 100 ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ Law students for finding success in class, exceling on the bar exam, and maintaining a healthier lifestyle.

Encouraged to “be brave for who you will become,” African-American students in ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ Law’s Class of 2018 were celebrated by family, friends, faculty and staff in a kente-donning program preceding Commencement.

The David Gergen Award for Leadership & Professionalism, bestowed each year at ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ School of Law’s Commencement, recognizes one student in the graduating class who embodies the highest levels of selfless leadership and service.
