Chad Awtrey, assistant professor of mathematics, presented three talks at MathFest, the national meeting of the Mathematical Association of America, in Lexington, Ky., from Aug. 4-6, 2011.

The summer of 2011 was a busy time for faculty as they embarked upon learning a new learning management system, Moodle.

ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ hosted its 8th annual Teaching and Learning Conference this month as more than 250 faculty, program directors and administrators from 34 area colleges and universities examined student learning and faculty roles in creating active and engaged learning environments, as well as the technologies that support these environments.

On June 3, Scott Hildebrand, assistant director of teaching and learning technologies presented at the EDUCAUSE Southeast Regional Conference in Charlotte.

ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ’s Center for the Advancement of Teaching and Learning has started a two-year research seminar, “Critical Transitions: Writing and the Question of Transfer,” that will explore the composition skills students learn in the classroom and use in new settings, such as an upper level course, an internship or the workplace.

Antonio Izzo and Yuko Miyamoto (Biology Department) presented "ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ's Biology Cabinet: An IT/Faculty partnership in online resource development" at the 2011 Educause Southeast Regional Conference held in Charlotte, NC June 2nd.

The presentation summarized the video production process resulting from a collaboration between the Biology Department and the Teaching and Learning Technology Group at ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ. Four instructional videos that focus on core Biology and Biochemistry lab techniques were produced that are currently being used in lab courses across these programs. The presentation included discussion of the developing model with an audience composed of both teaching faculty and IT staff from other regional colleges and universities.

Christopher Leupold, associate professor of Psychology and program coordinator of Leadership Studies, and Ben McFadyen, academic technology consultant from Teaching and Learning Technologies (TLT) and the Center for the Advancement of Teaching and Learning (CATL), presented sessions at the annual Lilly Conference on College and University Teaching in Bethesda, Maryland June 3-5.

The Center for the Advancement of Teaching and Learning (CATL) announces new reading groups, course design working groups, and two new workshops this summer, and continues to offer individual or group consultations about teaching and learning.
