Department Spotlight: Foreign Languages

President Leo M. Lambert has called for ÂÒÂ×ÊÓÆµ to “articulate the role of fluency in a second language to being a global citizen” and to “ensure that students have access to a vibrant, innovative foreign language curriculum that connects to their career aspirations.” To support President Lambert’s goal, the Department of Foreign Languages is developing and enhancing programs to promote second-language proficiency to prepare ÂÒÂ×ÊÓÆµ students to be exceptional ambassadors in a global society.

Students awarded Fulbrights for overseas teaching and research

Three ÂÒÂ×ÊÓÆµ seniors – Chris Jarrett, Gabrielle Dean and Brittany Carroll – have each been awarded Fulbright Program grants for overseas research and teaching, and their selections represent the largest number of students in university history to receive the prestigious national honor in the same academic year.

Nina Namaste accepted into 2011 Teagle cohort

Nina B. Namaste, Assistant Professor of Spanish in the Department of Foreign Languages, was recently accepted to participate in the 2011-12 cohort of the Teagle Assessment Scholar Development Program.
