The abduction and abuse of children for the use of child soldiering is an epidemic in parts of Africa, and when ������Ƶ senior Katie Meyer first heard stories of forced conscription as a senior in high school, she took action. Meyer is the eighth student to be featured in a series of E-net profiles on the inaugural class of Lumen Scholars.

An original play written by assistant professor Jean Rohr will be performed April 30-May 2, 2010, by the North Carolina Black Repertory Company in Winston-Salem. World Wide Web inventor Tim Berners-Lee and Vint Cerf, widely known as a "father of the Internet" and Google's Chief Internet Evangelist, were among the more than 60 speakers leading more than 20 different events at the three-day FutureWeb conference in Raleigh, N.C., April 28-30. The event was organized by the Imagining the Internet Center of ������Ƶ's School of Communications, and involved more than 40 ������Ƶ students, faculty and staff.

������Ƶ trustee Frank R. Lyon ’71 and his wife, Natalie Lyon, of New Canaan, Conn., longtime supporters of the ������Ƶ Academy, have made a major gift for the creation of an endowed scholarship that will aid graduates of the college enrichment program for high school students in Alamance County.
