Forty-five students enter Ƶ each year as the new class of Communications Fellows. These students pursue majors in Cinema & Television Arts, Digital Content Management, Journalism, Media Analytics, Sport Management, Strategic Communications and Visual Communication (formerly Communication Design).

All Communications Fellows receive scholarships valued at $8,000, which are renewable annually as long as a student remains a Fellow in good standing. These scholarships are awarded in addition to any Presidential or Ƶ Engagement scholarship received. Fellows also receive a $1,000 Global Study grant to be used for an Ƶ-approved study abroad or Study USA experience.

Beyond the financial benefit, there are core pillars to the Communications Fellows program:

 Build close relationships with peers and faculty through a supportive and collaborative learning community.

Take Fellows-only excursions to meet industry professionals in New York, Charlotte, Washington, D.C. and beyond.

Fellows serve as directors of Live Oak Communications, Ƶ’s student-run public relations agency; leaders at Ƶ News Network, the university’s daily multimedia news organization (which includes The Pendulum newspaper and “Ƶ Tonight”); and elected representatives in the Student Government Association.

ADVANCED SKILL DEVELOPMENT: Gain the know-how to conduct research, work in multimedia teams producing content worldwide, and manage sport organizations, events, facilities and promotions.

Eligibility and Selection Criteria

Applicants should be academically talented high school seniors who plan to major in Cinema & Television Arts, Digital Content Management, Journalism, Media Analytics, Sport Management, Strategic Communications and Visual Communication (formerly Communication Design).

Students should have an unweighted GPA of at least 3.8. Selection is based on high school academic performance, extracurricular involvement and communications experience. Students invited for an on-campus visit must also compose an essay and participate in a faculty interview.

Apply to Ƶ Early Decision, Early Action or Regular Deadline by Nov. 1 and to Communications Fellows by Nov. 10.
