Foreign language faculty host children in Spanish immersion classes

Foreign language faculty members Nina Namaste and April Post conducted a July 12 session on Venezuela with children from local public schools who are in Spanish language immersion classes.

Nina Namaste and April Post in the Department of Foreign Languages led a July 12 class for local public school students taking part in a Spanish immersion class.

The children chatted used the online video streaming service Skype to talk with someone who lives in Venezuela, and they asked her questions about life there.

Other Ƶ faculty and staff have participated in the program. Shawn Tucker, a faculty member in the Department of Art, hosted an art class in June. Raquel Cortes Mazuelas and Sylvia Munoz from el Centro are hosting a cooking class and Angel Garcia, assistant director of Residence Life – East Area, is conducting a class on sports later this month.

All classes are conducted in Spanish. The kids attend the summer sessions as a way to keep their language current in the summer.Several Ƶ faculty and staff children are in the Spanish immersion program in the public schools.
