Maria Ahm '23 became the first Ƶ female to win two conference championships and was named the Most Outstanding Performer of the Meet.
Aided by a first-place standing from junior Maria Ahm for the second straight year, the Ƶ women’s cross country team rolled to its third Colonial Athletic Association league championship in as many years at the league championship meet on Saturday, Oct. 30 at Franklin Park.
The Ƶ women scored 27 points at the league meet, outdistancing runner-up and host Northeastern, who was second with 66 points. The Huskies tied Delaware with 66 points, but earned the tiebreaker over the Blue Hens based on head-to-head.
Ahm also continued a championship streak as the Holbæk, Denmark native won her second straight CAA individual women’s cross country title. Ahm was one of four Ƶ runners who crossed the line within the top-10 of the women’s 6K.
In the men’s 8K, the maroon and gold men was third overall with William & Mary winning the team title with 28 points. Northeastern was second with 39 points followed by Ƶ, who posted 83.
Women’s Recap
- Ahm became the first Ƶ female to win two conference championships and also the fourth Phoenix women’s runner to earn a league title. Ahm clocked a time of 21:26.20 in the race and was named the Most Outstanding Performer of the Meet.
- Fellow junior Maggie Springer was third overall in the race as the next Ƶ runner to cross the finish line. The Chapel Hill, N.C. native ran a time of 21:46.80 and earned All-CAA honors for the second straight season.
- Leandra Lorenz was fourth overall as the Kleinmachnow, Germany native ran a time of 21:48.50 to earn All-CAA for the second year in a row.
- Jette Beermann was the fourth Phoenix runner to finish in the top-10 of the race as the freshman clocked a time of 21:55.10 in seventh overall. She also received All-CAA laurels.
- Senior Hannah Preeo was 12th in the race as the fifth Phoenix runner to cross the finish line. The Wollongong, Australia native posted a time of 22:24.80 and was an All-CAA honoree.
Men’s Recap
- Aidan Tierney was the Phoenix’s leader on the men’s side as the junior came in with a time of 25:36.70 and was 11th overall to earn All-CAA honors for the third straight year,
- Zane Jackson was two places behind Tierney as the sophomore just missed out on All-CAA honors with his 13th-place standing. He would cross the finish line with a time of 25:43.20.
- Andrew Miller was the third runner from Ƶ to finish as the Fleming Island, Fla. native was 17th overall with a time of 26:07.20.
- Tamer Metwalli and Daniel King rounded out the top-five scorers for Ƶ. Metwalli was 23rd with a time of 26:27.10 while King was 30th with his time of 27:12.70
The Phoenix will travel to the NCAA Southeast Regional meet on Friday, Nov. 12, in Lexington, Kentucky.
