ÂÒÂ×ÊÓÆµ Football rises in the polls after Richmond win

The Phoenix solidified its top 25 ranking with the double-overtime victory over the Spiders in Rhodes Stadium on Saturday, Oct.1.

Coming off of a 30-27 double overtime win over No. 17/22 Richmond Saturday, the ÂÒÂ×ÊÓÆµ football team continued to climb the polls Monday. ÂÒÂ×ÊÓÆµ earned a No. 14 ranking in the and a No. 18 national ranking in the .

At 4-1 on the season and 2-0 in CAA Football play, the ÂÒÂ×ÊÓÆµ team is one of six Colonial Athletic Association teams in the top 25 in at least one of the two polls. The Phoenix is the second-highest ranked CAA team in the Stats Perform poll (behind No. 6 Delaware) and the fourth-highest in the AFCA Coaches poll (behind No. 6 Delaware, No. 13 Villanova and No. 17 William & Mary).

ÂÒÂ×ÊÓÆµ entered the polls a week ago at No. 23 in both. The Phoenix has not been ranked as high as No. 14 since being ranked No. 12 late in the 2018 season. ÂÒÂ×ÊÓÆµ has been ranked higher than No. 14 just 24 times in the 23-year history of the program.

With the victory over Richmond, ÂÒÂ×ÊÓÆµ has won four straight games since a 42-31 loss to Vanderbilt to open the season. The Phoenix has won six straight games against FCS competition dating back to last year.

No. 14/18 ÂÒÂ×ÊÓÆµ will be at home on Saturday, Oct. 8, as the Phoenix host Towson University at 2 p.m. The Towson Tigers enter the game at 2-3 overall and 0-2 in CAA Football play.
