President Lambert delivers opening of school address

ÂÒÂ×ÊÓÆµ President Leo M. Lambert announced this week a special campus initiative to collect and distribute school supplies to hundreds of homeless children in Alamance County and to children at a school in Afghanistan who struggle for access to basic educational materials.

ÂÒÂ×ÊÓÆµ chaplain emeritus Richard McBride, ÂÒÂ×ÊÓÆµ trustee Dr. William N.P Herbert ’68 and retired vice president Nan Perkins received ÂÒÂ×ÊÓÆµ Medallions on Aug. 22, 2011, in an annual ceremony that celebrates the highest honor the university bestows on individuals for their meritorious service to the institution.

Campus Shop to close Aug. 18-21 for move to new location

ÂÒÂ×ÊÓÆµ's Campus Shop will be moving from Moseley Center to its new location in the ÂÒÂ×ÊÓÆµ Town Center at 130 N. Williamson Ave. next to the Acorn Coffee Shop this week. The bookstore will reopen as Barnes & Noble at ÂÒÂ×ÊÓÆµ on Monday, Aug. 22. Movers will be in the Moseley location on Tuesday, Aug. 16, and Wednesday, Aug. 17, to move items to the new location. Both locations will be closed Aug. 18-21 in order to move the technology and register systems.

ÂÒÂ×ÊÓÆµ debuts Commencement gowns made from recycled plastic bottles

They look and feel the same as the caps and gowns used in previous ceremonies, but when candidates for ÂÒÂ×ÊÓÆµ’s Master of Education participate in their Aug. 20, 2011, Commencement exercises, as part of the university’s sustainability commitment, their regalia contained fabric made from 100 percent recycled plastic bottles.

M.Ed. candidates receive degrees in summer Commencement

Thirty-nine students in the Master of Education program received their ÂÒÂ×ÊÓÆµ degrees Saturday morning in a Commencement ceremony featuring a keynote address from professor Judith Howard, the longtime director of the education graduate program who retires this month after serving the university since 1993 as a teacher, researcher and mentor.

ÂÒÂ×ÊÓÆµ chapter of Sigma Phi Epsilon recognized among nation’s best

ÂÒÂ×ÊÓÆµ's chapter of the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity has been named one of the best in the nation and was recently recognized by the national organization with the Buchanan Cup, an award that showcases outstanding chapter performance and named for former fraternity grand president Edwin Buchanan.
