ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ young alumna Kristine Silverstri served as a guest writer this week for Pulitzer Prize-winning New York Times columnist Nicholas D. Kristof, who published on his newspaper blog Silvestri's account of contracting malaria when she visited Ghana in late 2008.

Fourteen ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ alumni in the Class of 2010 will re-enter the classroom this fall as educators with Teach for America, a national nonprofit that recruits recent college graduates to help erase what it describes as educational inequity found in many urban and rural low-income communities.

The School of Communications has published the inaugural issue of the ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ Journal of Undergraduate Research in Communications, the first journal of its kind in the nation.

Molly McKnight Costigan, an ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ Spanish major, has been named the recipient of a 2010 Fulbright English Teaching Assistantship, which will fund one year in Spain teaching in an elementary school while conducting an independent project.

ELONTHON, the university’s annual 24-hour dance marathon to benefit the Children’s Miracle Network and Duke Children’s Hospital, raised more than $100,000 this year, organizers announced Tuesday in the final College Coffee of the semester.

For the fourth consecutive year, a team from ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ has been recognized for its performance in the prestigious Bateman Competition, which annually showcases the work of public relations students around the country. ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ was one of 16 teams to receive an honorable mention in the 2010 competition.
