The Pendulum, ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ's weekly student newspaper, received a 2009 national Pacemaker Award from the Associated Collegiate Press on Oct. 31 at the organization's joint conference with College Media Advisers in Austin, Texas. The Pacemaker is the highest honor ACP gives to its members.

ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ's Public Relations Student Society of America has been selected through a competitive bid process as one of 12 PRSSA chapters from across the country to host a regional conference this spring.

A day after winning a national Pacemaker award from the Associated Collegiate Press, the Pendulum was honored again by the ACP Nov. 1.

Max Negin, an adjunct instructor in the School of Communications, worked as an editor for MLB Network's coverage of the World Series. It's the second World Series Negin has worked in his career.

ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ Student Television's "RoadTrip" is working on reorganizing the structure of the show with new leadership positions. "RoadTrip" is looking for willing individuals to undertake new management positions.

A student-produced documentary about the U.S.S. Sequoia, which served as the presidential yacht from Herbert Hoover's administration until President Jimmy Carter auctioned it off in 1977, will be screened at the Asheville Film Festival Nov. 13.

The LSM Society managed and staffed the concession operation at the SAS – Champions Tour PGA Golf Tournament in Cary, N.C., at Prestonwood Country Club from Sept. 23-27, 2009, marking the fifth consecutive year that students from the LSM program have worked this event.

Two Communications majors have made it to the final round of voting for Lonely Planet's "My Journey" video competition, and online voting will determine the grand-prize winner.

Matt Davis, a May 2009 ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ graduate, presented a research paper on Nov. 1 at a scholarly conference of the Mid-Atlantic Region of the Association for Asian Studies at Villanova University.
