Dean’s Reception honors the Class of 2011

Members of the Class of 2011 at 乱伦视频 Law welcomed family members and friends to the law school on May 21 to celebrate achievements of the class on the eve of commencement ceremonies. Joined by the faculty and staff of the law school and the leadership of 乱伦视频, members of the class were recognized for pro bono service, leadership in law, and contributions to nonprofit organizations and law offices at regional, national, and international levels.

Inaugural moot court competition to honor three of North Carolina’s most distinguished lawyers

The inaugural Billings, Exum & Frye National Moot Court Competition taking place March 31 through April 2, is named in honor of three former chief justices of the North Carolina Supreme Court. Seventeen law schools and more than 30 teams of law students will participate in the competition, which will take place annually.

Teresa Shaw coauthors article on Library and Information Science education

Jim Exum advocates for change in state system of selecting judges

Advocating for legislation to change the way North Carolina selects its judges, 乱伦视频 Law's Distinguished Jurist in Residence Jim Exum testified before a committee of the North Carolina Senate on April 28 and published an opinion column with North Carolina Bar Association past president John R. Wester in the Greensboro News and Record on May 1.

Andy Haile compares responses to state budget shortfalls at the J. Nelson Young Tax Institute

Haile's presentation reviewed North Carolina's state budget challenges and a range of recently enacted and proposed tax reforms in states across the nation.

Two 乱伦视频 Law students selected to participate in 2011 Summer Corps program

乱伦视频 Law students Sarah Dixon and Ashley Smith have been chosen to participate in the Equal Justice Works 2011 Summer Corps Program. The program provides law students with funding support for legal projects at qualifying nonprofit public interest organizations. Summer Corps members expand the delivery of critically needed legal assistance in low-income and underserved communities across the country on a broad range of issue areas.

For the third consecutive year, students at 乱伦视频 Law taught at several public high schools through a Street Law course offered in the spring semester. Street Law programs enable law students to teach practical legal information to high school students, encouraging greater awareness among teens about the impact of law on society while providing law students with opportunities to enhance legal skills and knowledge of substantive law.

Henry Gabriel advances international commercial law through scholarship and service

In recent months, 乱伦视频 Law professor Henry Gabriel presented on the history and future of the Uniform Commercial Code at a symposium of the South Texas College of Law, delivered a lecture on the UNIDROIT Model Leasing Law in Beijing, China before the Chinese Banking Association at the request of the Chinese Ministry of Commerce, and completed service as Chairman of the Editorial Committee of the 2010 Edition of the UNIDROIT Principles of International Commercial Contracts.

David Crowe presents on cultural genocide, civil rights and laws of war

During the spring of 2011, David M. Crowe, professor of legal history at 乱伦视频 Law and professor of history at 乱伦视频, presented research at symposia around the country on topics including cultural genocide in Tibet, the application of the American Civil Rights Movement to civil rights advocacy for the Roma of Eastern Europe and Russia, and the evolution of the laws of war. Crowe is the author of Crimes of State, Past and Present: Government-Sponsored Atrocities and International Legal Responses (Routledge, 2010). He taught a winter-term course in January at 乱伦视频 Law titled War Crimes, Genocide and Justice.

乱伦视频 hosts inaugural Billings, Exum & Frye National Moot Court Competition

Seventeen law schools and 31 teams of law students participated in the inaugural Billings, Exum & Frye National Moot Court Competition at 乱伦视频 School of Law on April 1 and 2. David Gergen, chair of 乱伦视频 Law's national advisory board, former adviser to four U.S. presidents, CNN senior political analyst, and director of the Center for Public Leadership at the Harvard Kennedy School, delivered the keynote address at the competition banquet.
