Kayla Mead '23 and Madison Trent '23 presented “Learning to Teach Mathematics as Undergraduate Researchers,” sharing their findings from their multi-year research projects at the NC Council of Teachers of Mathematics annual conference. Erin Hone, senior lecturer in education presented, "Fluency versus Automaticity: Building True Procedural Fluency."

������Ƶ's Teacher Education Program has earned national accreditation by demonstrating excellence in the areas of content and pedagogy, clinical partnerships and practice, candidate recruitment, progression and support, program impact and quality assurance and continuous improvement from the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation.

12 students and two faculty in the Dr. Jo Watts Williams School of Education attended the 50th Annual Association for Experiential Education (AEE) International Conference in Black Mountain, North Carolina in November.

The presentation, “Sankofa: How Segregation Narratives Inform the Present Experiences of a Beginning Black Teacher,” was presented as a plenary session at the conference.

Nidhi Khiantani, a Collegiate Start@������Ƶ graduate, has coauthored an article for elementary teachers with Lisa Buchanan, associate professor of education in the Dr. Jo Watts Williams School of Education which discusses how teachers in grades 4-6 can use the novel, "Front Desk" as part of a larger study of power, identity and racism and the experiences of Chinese Americans in the United States.

Marna Winter, senior lecturer and chair for the Department of Education and Wellness, co-published an article with Kristen O'Neill '19 in the Reading and Writing Quarterly journal. Their article explores the prevalence and usage of Hi-Lo texts in today's classrooms.

They received a $15,600 sub-grant from the North Carolina Independent Colleges and Universities (NCICU) to develop the Science of Reading program in the Dr. Jo Watts Williams School of Education.

Carpenter, professor of education, and his co-authors published the articles in the journals Interactive Learning Environments and the Journal of Computers in Education.

Students in Jennifer Eidum's Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) Theory & Practice course attended a workshop on commitment statements led by Beth Godbee, creator of Heart-Head-Hands: Everyday Living for Justice.

Lisa Buchanan co-authored article for the 'Social Studies and the Young Learner' journal on teaching topics of war to elementary aged children.
