The acknowledgment for the school’s teacher preparation program follows an extensive review process and site visit earlier this year. The program was first accredited in 1991.

Fifty-five educators participated in a two-day Inclusive Schools Network Institute run by the organization Gender Spectrum and hosted by the ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ School of Education

The new program to launch in Fall 2018 is a reincarnation of the highly effective program that prepared future teachers to work in North Carolina schools.

Terry Tomasek, associate professor of education and director of the ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ Academy, was presented with the Academic Collaboration Award at the NCCPA conference in Asheville, N.C. on Nov. 8.

The School of Education and the Isabella Cannon Global Education Center hosted 14 international visitors from Saudi Arabia on Nov. 2 to engage in a cultural exchange on the topic of education.

On Thursday, Nov. 2, faculty members Erin Hone and Marna Winter along with students Molly Kearns and Kristen O’Neill, both junior special and elementary majors, presented twice at the N.C. Council of Teachers of Mathematics state conference in Greensboro, N.C.

On Thursday, Nov. 2, ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ students studying elementary and special education in the Principles of Learning and Teaching Math and Science classes of Assistant Professor Katie Baker and Lecturer Erin Hone attended the N.C. Council of Teachers of Mathematics state conference. 

Jeffrey Carpenter, associate professor of education and director of the Teaching Fellows program, co-authored two articles that appeared in November issues of the journals Educational Leadership and Phi Delta Kappan.

The deadline to apply for admission in spring 2018 to Teacher Education is Dec. 10, 2017.

ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ has partnered with the University of Otago in Dunedin, New Zealand, and Arcadia University in Glenside, Pennsylvania, for a semester-long experience for students in the School of Education.
