ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ has provided faculty in the School of Communications and in the Department of Computing Sciences with Apple iPads as a form of professional development and to help keep professors at the forefront of using technology in the classroom.

Faculty, students and staff now have round-the-clock, on-demand access online to a library of popular software from any computer, anywhere in the world, thanks to VirtualApps.

Campus Technologies held its 3rd annual Connected @ ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ event on Aug. 29, 2010, during New Student Orientation. Created to help incoming students learn about the technology available to them on campus, the theme of this year’s show was Family Feud.

Students now have expanded e-mail capability as a result of ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ's partnership with Google. All student e-mail accounts have been converted to Google’s web-based e-mail service, Gmail. The conversion took place on June 1 and required no action from students. Returning students' e-mail addresses (student@elon.edu) and passwords remain the same. Inbox contents, including calendar appointments and contacts, were automatically transferred to the new Gmail accounts.

August 19th will tackle complex future-oriented and now-oriented topics that apply directly to college teaching. Janna Anderson from ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ will explore the Future of the Internet and implications for teaching. Joan Middendorf and David Pace from Indiana University will discuss how faculty teaching communities can help build a common language of teaching.

Medical advances have allowed children infected with HIV/AIDS to live longer than ever before, and for families and doctors, that creates new challenges as teenage patients grow older. New research by associate professor Cynthia Fair outlines steps that families and medical providers should consider to ease what can be a difficult transition from pediatric to adult care.

Janna Anderson, associate professor in the School of Communications, led a special event on issues tied to hyperconnectivity, Web 3.0, cloud computing, user-generated content, social networks, ubiquitous computing and ambient intimacy, and augmented and virtual realities at the WorldFuture 2010 conference hosted by the World Future Society in Boston July 9.
