ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ's board of trustees voted April 15 to establish a new School of Health Sciences, serving graduate students in the existing doctor of physical therapy (DPT) program along with students in the new physician assistant (PA) studies master's program, which will enroll its first class in January 2013.

"Valued Voices," a play written by Jean Rattigan-Rohr, associate professor in ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ's School of Education, will be featured in The Reader’s Theatre of New Works section of the 2011 National Black Theater Festival. The performance will be at 10 a.m., Aug. 2nd, in the Gaines Ballroom I – Embassy Suites Hotel, Winston Salem, N.C.

A new undergraduate exchange program created this month between ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ and Koç University in Istanbul, Turkey, will allow students to study abroad in a part of the world steeped with culture, history and art at a time when academic interest in the Middle East is blossoming.

The 2012 edition of the Fiske Guide to Colleges names ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ one of the nation's top 25 "Best Buy" private universities. The best buy schools are recognized for the quality of their academic offerings in relation to the cost of attendance.

A new ferryboat affiliated with ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ sets sail on the coastal North Carolina waters this summer. All of North Carolina’s ferryboats are affiliated with colleges or universities in North Carolina and display the school colors and logos.

Twenty-six students, faculty, staff and alumni representing ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ’s Imagining the Internet Center participated in and provided official documentation of the Internet Governance Forum-USA 2011 at Georgetown University Law Center on July 18.

This September, ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ will begin a new lifelong education program designed for people aged 50 and older. The learning institute, called LIFE@ELON, will feature weekly presentations conducted in interactive format. The learning community will be led by current and retired ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ faculty and staff members and other area educators.

The youngest scholars spoke on the habits of highly effective teenagers, while those a year older focused on how the ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ Academy has changed their lives. The eldest of the ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ Academy students who presented to classmates, parents and educators on Friday evening? They read from the first drafts of admissions essays that will be used this fall to apply for college educations many once thought were out of reach.

Forty-one percent of ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ alumni in the Class of 2011 had accepted a full-time position by the day they received their diplomas, the highest percentage in five years of students reporting employment at time of graduation, according to initial results from the Cap & Gown survey administered by the Office of Career Services to seniors prior to Commencement.

ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ President Leo M. Lambert was one of two people honored this month by the State University of New York at Geneseo Alumni Association for his commitment to the association, college and higher education.
