Peer EARS
Peer EARS offers peer-to-peer mental health support grounded in the practices of empathy, affirmation, reflection, and support. If you are struggling with homesickness, adjusting to college, academic pressure, personal stress, time management, relationship dynamics, or feeling disconnected – Peer EARS is here to help!
Peer EARs are available for 1:1 visits during weekly office hours and host monthly social activities (Sunday Socials) to help students build social connections and destress!
Peer EARs are current ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ students who have completed coursework and training to prepare them to engage as active, non-judgmental listeners to offer support and helpful guidance.
NOTE: Peer EARS is not a good fit for everything- if you are having thoughts of self-harm, suicide, or an urgent mental health crisis, you should seek professional assistance.
A Crisis Counselor is available 24/7 at, 336-278-2222 or call 9-1-1 for emergency response.

Peer EARs Profiles
Meet ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ! (pronouns: she/her) ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ is from Atlanta, Georgia. She is a sophomore majoring in Psychology with double minors in African American Studies and Early Childhood.
“Something I’ve had to overcome since coming to college as a black woman is adjusting to life at a PWI. While it hasn’t always been easy, I’ve been able to find safe spaces and sup
portive communities on campus that make me feel comfortable and at home.”
“In my free time, I love watching movies and rewatching my favorite shows like New Girl, Bob’s Burgers, and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. I also enjoy crocheting; it’s one of my favorite ways to relax and be creative!”

Meet Lily! (pronouns: she/her) Lily is from Durham, NC. She is currently a junior pursuing an independent major in Creative and Therapeutic Arts.
“Finding balance was a struggle for me during my first year at ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ. Figuring out how to spend time with friends, participate in extracurricular activities, work at a job, and remain committed to academic success
was overwhelming. While I continue to work on this as my priorities shift, the support I receive from my peers and staff has given me the confidence to accomplish this goal.”
“I am super into crafting; stamp-making, collaging, and jewelry making have been some of my favorites recently! I also love thrifting and am
always on the lookout for new places to explore.”
Frequently Asked Questions
- Do I need an appointment? No appointment is necessary! Just stop by one of the convenient campus locations when EARS sites are open- look for the Peer EARS sign. Peer EARs are also available to meet virtually.
- What should I expect when I meet with a peer consultant? A little information is gathered right at the start – you’ll be asked your name, email address, and a general reason for the visit (e.g., college adjustment, roommate issues). From there, share what is on your mind. Your Peer EAR will listen and may offer feedback or suggestions, if that is what you want- otherwise, they will be there to just hear you out and offer support!
