The ÂÒÂ×ÊÓÆµ Phoenix will enter the upcoming 2008 Southern Conference Baseball Championship as the number one seed after winning the regular season title outright with a 19-8 SoCon mark. The Phoenix finished one game ahead of College of Charleston (18-9) whose loss on the last day of the regular season gave ÂÒÂ×ÊÓÆµ the title outright. It is the second SoCon title for ÂÒÂ×ÊÓÆµ in three seasons.

Top-seeded ÂÒÂ×ÊÓÆµwill take on either eighth-seeded The Citadel or ninth-seeded Woffordon Wednesday, May 21 at Joe Riley Park in Charleston, S.C. at either 5p.m. or 8 p.m. The time will be determined following Tuesday’s games.
Also in ÂÒÂ×ÊÓÆµ’s half of the bracket are fourth-seeded GeorgiaSouthern and fifth-seeded UNC Greensboro. The Phoenix went 9-3 duringthe regular season against teams in its bracket.
The other bracket will pit second-seeded College of Charlestonagainst either seventh-seeded Western Carolina or 10th-seeded Davidsonand third-seeded Furman against sixth-seeded Appalachian State.
This year’s tournament format uses two double eliminationbrackets. The winners of each bracket will play a single game for thetournament title on Sunday at 2 p.m. and will be tape delayedon SportSouth.
