Inspired by ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ's commitment to scholarship funding, retired faculty member Nancy Midgette, of Montreat, North Carolina, decided to support students in the Odyssey Program with her gift.

The Sam and Vicky Hunt Scholarship will assist two students each year in the Odyssey Program, a highly selective program for students with exceptional ability and promise and significant financial need.

Furman Moseley '56 created the Odyssey Program scholarships for women with outstanding promise in 2007 to honor his wife, Susan. The university awards four Susan Scholarships each year. 

The new scholarship gifts and commitments announced by President Leo M. Lambert and a group of key university volunteers on Friday come from seven inspired donors.

ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ's "It Takes a Village" Project began in 2008 with ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ education students providing after-school reading assistance to 16 third-graders. 

Monday's gathering on Scott Plaza in front of the Alamance Building offered an opportunity to welcome new and returning members of the ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ Academy, the university's college access and success program for local high school students.  

What began as a personal bookmobile project is now receiving rave reviews for its impact on the education of young readers during summer vacation.

Members of the ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ Academy's Iota Class were joined by friends, family and supporters on May 16 for a celebration of their success. 

The initiative is part of ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ's Center for Access and Success and pairs tutors with students in all levels of elementary and secondary school to help them succeed in school. 

ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ Academy Assistant Director John Pickett presented information about the academic and non-cognitive skills necessary in the college-planning process to enhance college access and success efforts.
