Alamance Youth Leadership Academy
The goal of Alamance Youth Leadership Academy is to empower youth through the connections of civic engagement and leadership development for a greater Alamance County.
The Center for Leadership is invested in the development of our youth in the local community. Every summer, ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ partners with the and the to host the a summer institute and leadership development opportunities throughout the academic year.
Alamance Youth Leadership Academy kicks off its program with a four-and-a-half day leadership institute in June held at ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ. During this time 90+ rising 7th graders learn about team building and experience a variety of leadership skills workshops. Students also create recommendations for their school in three areas: community engagement, recognition, and how to create a culture of kindness in their school. Eight ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ students serve as AYLA facilitators and are employed as Adventures in Leadership (AIL) facilitators through Campus Recreation & Wellness. These eight college students guide participants during the institute.
AYLA currently serves over 200+ 7th and 8th graders from 10 different middle schools in Alamance County. This program builds on the summer institute to empower youth with the skills necessary to formulate and execute a campus improvement plan at their school. It is through the facilitation of ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ students that those skills are honed and developed.
